The main thrust of this article is to demonstrate the importance of sound experimental design and the proper strategy to screen operational variables in complex systems to ensure that the system is modeled with minimal investment and labor. This article describes the advantages and limitations of some statistical screening methods, such as the Plackett-Burman design, the Hadamard method, and the compositional analysis method in the sensitivity analysis of heap leach mathematical models.
