2008年,刘若英受邀担任台北电影节评审。那一年,林书宇带着他的第一部长片《九降风》参赛。看完《九降风》的刘若英激动到不能自己,她形容自己当时很想找个人,告诉他/她:台湾电影有希望了!刘若英的确猜对了开头。《九降风》之后,我们看到《海角七号》的奇迹,而后是《艋胛》的延续。但回头想想,这一波台湾新青春片的复苏,开始,似乎就是林书宇和他的《九降风》。时隔三年,林书宇又回到大银幕前,这一次,他带来的是被陈国富形容为台湾与大陆首部两岸真正的合拍片《星空》。越洋的电话采访发生在深夜十一点,林书宇还在为这部11月即将上新片赶工后期。电话那头的声音有些沙哑,时常还有些咳嗽声传来。话题还是从《九降风》说起。记得2009年1月,在香港举行的两岸导演协会年会上,遇到背着双肩包,看起来学生气很浓的林书宇。问《九降风》之后的拍片环境是否有好转?他笑着摇了摇头。而这一次的采访填补了那一次的空白,原来,《九降风》之后,觉得自己状态没有进步的书宇,又回去做自己的老本行——副导演。他甚至,还是《艋胛》的第一副导。等了三年,新片《星空》终于将面试,林书宇有种时间刚刚好的轻松。“大家都说《九降风》好的时候,我反而有一点虚。这三年,我一直想让自己沉淀下来。我希望,在电影方面,我要么不出手,一出手一定要是最好的!到今天,可以交出《星空》,我觉得这三年的‘磨’是值得的。”
