“任志强这样的人,不太识时务,也不知道顾全大局,而且有时候不知趣,还老是自以为是,他在中国的社会习俗下,想谋生混碗饭吃都不易,能混出个样来就更难了。”这段评价,出自中粮集团董事长宁高宁的手笔,是他为任志强的回忆录《野心优雅》写的序的开头。通读一遍任志强亲自执笔的回忆录后会发现,宁高宁的描述非常传神,即便是带有调侃的意味,也调侃得很实在。任志强在回忆起1999年的一次公司变动时,曾经这样描述:

After reading through his memoirs Ren Zhiqiang personally will find that Ning Gaoning’s description is very vivid, even with the meaning of ridicule, but also ridicule very real. Ren Zhiqiang recalls a company change in 1999, once described as:
