To investigate the changes of immune function in children with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Methods Serum soluble interleukin 2 receptor (sIL-2R) and APAAP were used to detect T lymphocyte subsets in children with ITP by double antibody sandwich ELISA. Results Serum levels of sIL-2R and CD8 in ITP children were significantly higher than those in children with ITP (P <0.01). There was a negative correlation between sIL-2R and CD4 / CD8 (r = -0.581, P <0. 01). The sIL-2R level in the remission period was significantly lower than the normal level, but the ratio of CD8 and CD4 / CD8 was not significantly changed in acute stage. The results suggest that the detection of sIL-2R and T lymphocyte subsets is of great importance for the monitoring of ITP children’s condition
