自1194年以来,安徽淮北平原遭受黄水夺淮的影响,在其北部复盖了一层厚数米至十余米的黄泛物质。由于“急沙慢淤”的沉积规律,河床和濱河地段沉积了颗粒比较粗,而且松散的沙土,羣众称为飞沙土(因易被风吹动)。这种土壤分布在肖县、碭山两县境内沿廢黄河、大沙河和苗成河两岸宽约一至二公里的地带,灵璧县北部和沿淮地区也有小面积的分布。据宿县专区农林局的统计,全专区共有飞沙土四十六点六万亩,其中肖、碭两县为三十五点八万亩,其余十点七万亩分布在灵璧、五河和怀远等县。在3、4月和11、12月干旱盛风季节,飞沙土随风满天飞扬,摧毁庄稼。加上它还有其他不良特性,因此,利用不当,便会变成沙荒,其生产情况不比花碱土地区好。本区羣众在与飞沙土作斗争中,创造了许多宝贵的经验,凡飞沙土利用得好的地方,生产情况甚至比棉区还好,因此,翻查研究飞沙土的特性,并总结推广羣众利用改良飞沙土的经验,具有很大的现实意义。
