《论语·为政》中“有耻且格”之“格”的解释归纳起来大致有以下三种:至,来;本;通“恪”。这三种解释是通过分析上下文意推测得出的,而没有考虑“格”的构字部件。从文字学角度拆分“格”字的部件:“格”字可分为“木”和“各”两个一级部件,“各”又可分为“口”“夂”两个二级部件。参照《说文解字》《说文解字注》等著述,对各部件进行解说,并在《论语》成书的基础上结合孔子的政治思想对“格”字进行了解读。结论是“格”宜训为“行止于一定范围”。
