对于民国初年的新剧研究,目前学界利用较为充分的是朱双云的《新剧史》、范石渠的《新剧考》、周剑云的《菊部丛刊》,以及《新剧杂志》、《俳优杂志》、《剧场月报》、《戏剧杂志》、《游戏杂志》、《戏剧丛报》、《繁华杂志》、《娱闲录》、《民权素》、《小说月报》、《小说大观》、《礼拜六》等杂志上的文章,而对当时的报纸史料利用还不多。[1]尽管有些研究者已开始搜集和整理《申报》、《民立报》、《生活日报》等报纸中的新剧史料,但仍有大量有价值的文章未被发掘。
