Since 1985, the Soviet Union has exported 18,000 machine tools to member states of the European Community. Of these, 12,000 are exported to Germany. In 1989, the Soviet Union produced 130,000 machine tools, of which 22,000 were CNC machines. Most of the CNC machine tools are exported to Eastern European countries. At present, the Soviet Union is building two new CNC machine tool manufacturing plants in Moscow and Leningrad, both of which are built by German companies.
