国家重大科学工程不仅对有关学科取得重大突破性进展、实施知识创新是必需的,而且还会带动其他学科和工程技术的发展,成为相应学科的重要科研基地。在重大科学工程的建设过程中,将凝聚一大批科技人才,从而成为人才的培养基地。重大科学工程的建设与完成,又是现代科学技术和工业发展水平的集中体现,会对我国社会发展乃至国民经济建设产生重要影响。“九五”中国科学院承担的6项国家重大科学工程已经启动,它们是:
