Objective To understand the content of blood lead in preteen children in Jining and explore the influence of lead on the behavior and development of adolescent children. Methods A total of 143 adolescents aged from 11 to 14 were recruited using the principle of randomization. Behavioral investigation was conducted by using the self-rating scale of adolescents. The content of lead in whole blood was determined by differential potentiometric stripping method. Results The average level of blood lead was 58.30μg / L in pre-adolescent children in Jining. The level of blood lead and the number of lead poisoning in boys were lower than those in girls. The level of blood lead and lead poisoning in children with abnormal behavior were higher than those in normal behavior group. There was a positive correlation between blood lead levels and attention deficit, discipline, and aggression (r = 0.187, 0.193, and 0.233, respectively), with statistical significance. Conclusion Lead is the main factor that affects children’s behavior and development, and should reduce their contact with lead in the environment for children in early adolescence.
