皖西大别山,群山巍峨,雾岚迷朦。佛子岭水库,这座素有亚洲彩虹之称的新中国第一座连拱坝水库,就座落于霍山县境的淠河之上。 5月的一天,笔者来到佛子岭水库,远远望去,一代伟人毛泽东亲笔题写的“一定要把淮河修好”8个深红色大字,镌刻在坝体之上,山间一簇簇映山红艳如火苗,把大坝映衬得犹如一架彩虹,凌空飞渡,气势非凡。佛子岭水库是建国初期治淮决策中的首期工程。1951年冬,新中国第一代水利技术人员、人民解放军官兵和民工,在交通困难,施工经验、经费、机械、资料等缺乏的情况下,苦战3年,建成了我国大地上从未有过的钢筋混凝土连拱坝,当时被称为“远东第一坝”,苏联列宁格勒水电设计院院长夸赞说:“连拱坝好,中国工程师了不起!”
