这是一部关于粤剧艺人追求梦想的故事。粤剧艺人邝三华因练南派大戏《火烧黄天荡》的高台照镜而受伤腿残。但他依然痴迷粤剧,变卖家财重组剑影班,欲图振兴南派大戏。然而土匪橫行,社会腐败,粤剧艺人的梦想一个个破灭。最后,在日寇的枪刀下,红船艺人引炸了红船,与敌同归于尽。红船虽然沉没了,但红船人的精神永存。剧中,班主邝三华深爱着师妹梅卿,而梅卿却爱上了文武生超剑郎。他们的爱情纠缠,既缠绵悱恻,又轰轰烈烈,令人心酸的寻梦之途,演绎了一曲情与义、血与泪的壮歌。
