戴叔伦为唐代中期著名诗人与循吏,去世后友人权德舆、梁肃分别为撰墓志铭、神道碑。权志已见《权载之文集》,而梁氏此碑未见诸书收录,仅明周弘祖《古今书刻》著录镇江府有碑刻。清道光间韩崇《宝铁斋金石文跋尾》卷中称该碑已“文字漫灭不可辨,惟碑额正书‘唐故戴公神道之碑’八字完善。在金坛县南门外,屹立道中。”今已不存。民国三年丹徒陈庆年刊《横山草堂丛书》,其戴叔伦集跋语曾提及“小辛戴氏宗谱”中收有梁肃撰《神道碑》全文,今金坛文管会藏者题《重修戴氏宗谱》(仅四册残本)有收录,惜仍未引起学者注意。
