不久前,笔者在阅读《语文学习》2005年第6期时,发现余党绪先生在《阅读中的经典》一文的开篇处援引了博尔赫斯关于“经典”的论断,并作简要评述。部分文段摘录如下:“经典是一个民族或几个民族长期以来决定阅读的书籍,是世世代代的出于不同的理由,以先期的热情和神秘的忠诚阅读的书。”(博尔赫斯语)经典阅读的重要意义和价值人所共知,勿庸置疑。实际上这里的“勿庸置疑”的正确书写形式应该是“毋庸置疑”抑或“无庸置疑”。《汉语成语小词典》(商务印书馆,1992)对“无庸置疑”的解释是:
Not long ago, when the author read “Language Learning” (2005), he found that Mr. Yu Dangxu quoted Borges’s “classic” argument at the beginning of “The Classic in Reading” and made a brief Commentary. Some of the passages are excerpted as follows: “Classic is a book that a nation or several people have long decided to read, and it is a book that has been read for generations by different reasons, with early enthusiasm and mysterious loyalty.” The important meaning and value of classical reading are well known and undoubted. In fact, the correct writing of “undoubtedly” here should be “undoubtedly” or “unquestionable”. The Chinese Dictionary of Small Idioms (Commercial Press, 1992) explained that “no doubt” is:
