Objective To investigate the relationship between cerebrospinal fluid white blood cell count, biochemical tests and serum myocardial enzymes in children with severe hand-foot-mouth disease. Methods The clinical data of cerebrospinal fluid white blood cell count, biochemical and myocardial enzymes in 59 severe children admitted to hospital from January to April were retrospectively analyzed. Results The percentage of cerebrospinal fluid leucocyte increased 96.6% in severe children (89.4%), and the number of individual cells increased significantly, which basically accorded with the characteristics of viral encephalitis. Compared with the common cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, the differences of LDH and α-HBDH in protein and myocardial enzymes were statistically significant. Conclusion Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and routine myocardial enzyme examination in HFMD children with severe tendency are helpful for the early diagnosis of severe diseases.
