As somebody who goes to bed early,I found this book on Shanghai nightlife eye opening.rnWhen I first visited Shanghai in the mid-1980s,there was not much of a nightlife.Thanks to the earlier work of one of the co-authors of this book,the historian Andrew Field,I did know that Shanghai once had a vibrant jazz scene down through the 1950s.
