北京的毛猴艺术家所剩无几,毛猴行业日渐消失。毛猴艺术传人郭福田和崔玉兰夫妇都已五十多岁,他们退休后全身心经营工作室、开讲座和教其他人做毛猴。做毛猴时“剥蝉蜕要非常小心,蝉的鼻子做猴头,蝉的两条后腿做上肢,蝉用来抓住树干的一对大前爪做上肢”。做毛猴最难的是制作场景,传统艺人认为,毛猴布景必须留住几十年前老北京的风貌。他们塑造的场景都是古老却普通的胡同生活,比如小猴在泡澡、搓背、品茶、看书和刮脸。
