The 16th International Conference of Metrology was held in Paris from October 8 to October 1979. Based on the recommendations of the CCP and CCPR, the basic units of luminosity of the International System of Units (SI) have been redefined. The photometric unit is defined in terms of the amount of monochromatic radiation and the amount of radiation at a given frequency in place of the photometric base unit defined by Planck’s radiation of a blackbody at the platinum solidification temperature. This major change is to adapt to the development of modern photometry and radiometrics.
