陆上自卫队90式主战坦克被公认为世界上最先进的坦克之一,在1994年前曾连续数年雄踞世界坦克排行榜之首, 可谓风头出尽。但近十余年来,90式坦克基本未作大的改进,而与其齐名的美国 M1A2“艾布拉姆斯”及德国的“豹”Ⅱ等系列主战坦克却不断推陈出新,在技术上已日渐领先。此外,90式在正式服役后,不断暴露出严重的缺陷,受到官兵和装甲车辆专家的批评与质疑。目前,日本的坦克设计师正在积极进行90式坦克改进型的论证。毋须置疑,关注其改进思路及进程对于我军的装备建设同样具有现实的借鉴意义。
