徐生翁(1875-1964年),浙江绍兴人。早年嗣李姓,名徐,号生翁。中年以李徐、李生翁署名,晚岁始复徐姓,仍号生翁。徐生翁生性淡泊,不求闻达,足不出户,闭门绍兴;不慕荣华,不畏世俗。与民初诸多书坛大家相比,徐生翁这种近乎自我封闭的状态,造成了他的成功带有极其浓重的悲剧色彩。在他死后的近百年之后,他的书画篆刻艺术才引起当代书坛的重视,《二十世纪书法经典·徐生翁》卷的出版以及近年少量关于徐生翁艺术成就的研究成果即是一个明证。与徐生翁同时期的书法大家的艺术研究成果相比,关于
Xu Sheng Weng (1875-1964), Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. In the early years, he had surnamed Li, his name was Xu, and he was born. In the middle age, he was signed by Li Xu and Li Shengweng. At the end of his old age, he began to resurrect Xu Xing, and still was born. Xu Shengweng lived indifferently, did not seek to hear, left home, Shaoxing closed doors; not admired Ronghua, not afraid of the world. Compared with many people in the early years of the Republic of China, Xu Shengeng’s almost self-contained state caused his success to be extremely tragic. Nearly a hundred years after his death, his painting and seal carving art attracted the attention of contemporary literature. The publication of “Twenty Century Calligraphy Classics Xu Sheng Weng” volume and a few research results on Xu Shengweng’s artistic achievement in recent years are proof.
