Here, we have encountered a rather special grammatical structure; independent master structure. This structure is not specifically discussed in secondary school English textbooks, but only mentioned in relevant grammars (eg non-predicate verbs). In order to help our students understand it, we now introduce the structure and function of the independent subject as follows.
