王家大湖位于湖北省松滋县南部,水面10,400亩。湖型如盆状。三面有围堤与农田分隔,一面有大堤与洈河隔绝,只有一座进水闸与洈河相通,是一个封闭式湖泊。1979年,大湖投放3寸规格的鱼种170万尾,其中草鱼占30%,鳙鱼占15%,鲢鱼占55%,全年起捕成鱼110,000斤。其中草鱼产量占10%,鲢、鳙占80%,底层鱼占10%。1980年5月20日,该场湖泊管理员在巡湖时,发现有个别草鱼离群漂游在湖面。6月5日发现草鱼开始死亡,同时湖内漂游的草鱼数量也增多。6月10日草鱼成批死亡,一天之内用船在湖内捡到死草鱼约150斤。死草鱼个体大小不等。小的约半斤,中等的约3-5斤,大的达10斤以上。
