The United States “Reproductive Research” Volume 11 No. 3 (May 1979) reported: human fetal amniotic fluid contains a lot of prolactin, its source unknown, but apparently not from the mother. Prolactin may be derived from the fetal pituitary gland, or from the placenta itself, although the use of various drugs has shown that the fetal pituitary does not significantly promote hormones in amniotic fluid. Early studies have shown that this hormone is present in human amniotic membrane, but it may be combined in the amniotic tissue, rather than in the amniotic membrane synthesis.
