美国近代的铁路建设,是当时资本主义世界各国中最为突出的一例。它先后修建了三十余万公里的铁路,构成遍布全国的铁路网。铁路的建设有力地推动了美国经济的发展,使美国在十九世纪末二十世纪初一跃而成为资本主义强国。本文简要论述了美国近代铁路建设的背景,进展情况、经费问题、劳动力问题及其历史作用。
The modern railway construction in the United States was one of the most prominent examples of the countries in the capitalist world at the time. It has successively built more than 300,000 km of railways, forming a network of railways all over the country. The construction of the railway has effectively promoted the development of the U.S. economy and made the United States jump into a capitalist power in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This article briefly discusses the background, progress, funding problems, labor issues and their historic role in the modern American railway construction.
