台湾现代主义文学视域下的都市经验书写与文化论述始于20世纪80年代中晚期,至90年代“新世代”作家群有显著的发展,其主要线索是从早期较为普泛的存在主义论述转入资讯文明、后工业时代消费文化语境下个体的异化与分裂,都市这一承载、演绎、生产现代商业文明与资讯交互的地理空间,正是促进现代性在“后现代”时期质变与转型的重要推动力,它更加彰显了现代性的迷离与眩晕带来的异化体验。对此,台湾“新世代”作家林耀德以其对自我与存在的拷问提供了一种独特的经验,他不仅捕捉到晚期资本主义混乱失序的时代自我的悲剧性,更说明了分裂的个体与畸变的社会空间如何形成了相互生产的关系。
