自爱迪生一八七九年发明电灯后,直到一九○四年都是用碳化后的棉线、纸、毛竹做灯丝。一九○四年奥地利人亚历山大·尤斯特和弗兰兹·哈那曼发现用钨做灯丝比毛竹灯丝优越。一九○七年开始生产钨丝电灯。钨是目前所知熔点最高的元素,它的熔点可达3410℃。当电灯亮时,灯丝的温度竟达3000℃以上。钨除了可以顶住这样的高温以外,还具备延性强、硬度大的特点,因此,现代灯如白炽灯、电子管、碘钨灯都采用了钨做灯丝。
Since Edison invented the lamp in 1879, it was not until 1940 that filaments of carbonized cotton, paper and bamboo were used. In 1904 the Austrian Alexander Ust and Franz Al-Hannaman found that using tungsten as a filament was superior to that of a bamboo filament. In 1907 began producing tungsten filament lamps. Tungsten is the highest melting point of the known elements, its melting point up to 3410 ℃. When the light is on, the temperature of the filament reaches as high as 3000 ℃. In addition to tungsten can withstand such a high temperature, but also has strong ductility, hardness characteristics, therefore, modern lamps such as incandescent lamps, tubes, tungsten halogen lamps are made of tungsten.
