60多年前,日寇疯狂地将战火燃烧到沿陕、晋、豫一线的黄河岸边,侵略军的飞机甚至经常深入关中腹地进行野蛮轰炸,陕西关中的汉唐陵、敦煌的莫高窟等西北地区的重要文物古迹面临空前浩劫。紧要关头,一群由10余人组成的“西北艺术文物考察团”成员,历时近五年完成中国历史上第一次由政府独立组织的大规模文物考古调查。考察团成员在特殊的战争环境中,勇于肩负“文物救亡”重任的伟大壮举至今却鲜为人知。考察团的特殊行动、历史意义和学术成果,值得中国考古界、美术界和教育界永远铭记。
More than 60 years ago, the Japanese invaders fiercely burned the war to the banks of the Yellow River along the Shaanxi, Jin and Yu lines. The invading army’s aircraft even went deep into the hinterland for barbaric bombings. The Han and Tang dynasties in Guanzhong, Shaanxi and the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang Important cultural relics and historic sites in the northwest face an unprecedented catastrophe. At a critical juncture, a group of more than 10 members of the “Northwest Art Relics Delegation” lasted nearly five years to complete the first large-scale cultural relics and archaeological investigations independently conducted by the government in Chinese history. Members of the delegation in a special war environment, have the courage to shoulder the heavy task of “heritage salvation” has so far been little known. The special operations, historical significance and academic achievements of the delegation deserve to be remembered forever by the Chinese archeology, fine arts and education circles.
