据《自然》周刊报道,英国政府最近宣布,惠普公司的欧洲研究中心主任约翰·泰勒已被任命为英国研究理事会（DGRC）的新一任总监,任期从1999年1月开始,为期三年。 泰勒也是当选的电子工程师学会会长,他从1984年起就在惠普公司工作,他的任命沿袭了前保守党政府的传统,从工业界而非学术界的科学家中选择DGRC总监。目前在任的约翰·卡多根爵士原来就是英国石油公司（BP）的董事长。
According to the weekly Nature, the British government recently announced that John Taylor, director of the Hewlett-Packard's European Research Center, has been appointed as the new director of the Research Council of England (DGRC) for a three-year term beginning January 1999. Taylor is also elected president of the Institute of Electronics Engineers. He has been with Hewlett-Packard since 1984, and his appointment follows the tradition of the former Conservative government, choosing DGRC directors from industrial rather than academic scientists. Sir John Cardour, who is currently in office, turned out to be the chairman of British Petroleum.
