To date, only a few archeologists know of prehistoric human cultural sites in the Lower Valais region of Switzerland. In 1962 and the winter of 1963, geologists conducted drilling in this area in the hope of finding new sources of water. Under a cliff reef, they accidentally discovered a little bit of chert flint. Studies have shown that these flints are of the Mesolithic age. Excavations were sent to the Department of Anthropology at the University of Geneva for analysis. Researchers found in the remnants of a 6700 year cremation remains. Prior to this, although people knew that there were cremation practices at that time, no trace of cremation was ever found in European sites. For the first time, prehistoric humans have placed their bodies on rocks, necklaces and weapons cut to shape. This involves a problem of formal cremation and certainly no cremation of a sacrificial object. Researchers in the day
