To connect back-up lines with the Z8000 microprocessor in a structured manner, a basic connection principle is required. For this purpose, Zilog developed a common 2-bus - not a device but a concept - Program interface to connect a variety of complex peripherals. This article will take the reader one step beyond basic interface circuitry (“ELECTRONIC DESIGN”, Oct, 25 1979, p.90) and bring up the concept of the Z bus and a set of specialized Z8000 microprocessors
