理性爱国主义是全球化时代背景下的爱国主义。它的根本特征是以理性精神来规范和控制爱国主义情感，使之不致走入极端，从而演化成狭隘的民族主义。因此，寻求爱国主义的理性支点将决定着现代中国爱国主义的基本走向，也是中国社会向现代性过渡的关键问题。中国传统思想文化资源中本身就具备许多理性精神，像“忧患意识”以及以个人道德修养沟通社会责任、历史使命等；而从中国传统文化的整体上看，它既是文化包容的结果，本身也就具有文化包容性的特点。挖掘民族传统思想文化中的理性精神，并加以现代性转换无疑将使现代中国的理性爱国主义更具民族性和现实性。
Rational Patriotism is Patriotism in the Context of Globalization. Its basic feature is to rationalize and control the patriotic feelings in a rational spirit so that it will not go to extremes and evolve into a narrow nationalism. From the perspective of traditional Chinese culture, it is both a result of cultural tolerance and itself It is culturally inclusive. To excavate the rational spirit in the national traditional ideology and culture and to change the modernity will undoubtedly make the rational patriotism of modern China more nationalistic and realistic.
