Romania has a population of only about 17 million, but today it is not only the second oil-producing country in Europe second only to the Soviet Union, but also one of the advanced machine-manufacturing countries in Europe. However, there was no machine-building industry in Romania at the time of the landlord-bourgeois rule. After the liberation, under the leadership of the Communist Party (later renamed the Workers’ Party), the Romanian people began to gradually establish their own machinery manufacturing industry on the aid of the Soviet Union. After two short-term one-year plans of 1949 and 1950, the production of machinery and heavy equipment increased more than twentyfold as compared to pre-war. When the victory of the first five-year plan (1951-1955) was completed, the total output of the machinery manufacturing industry had quadrupled since 1949. At present, the most significant and highly skilled machinery manufacturing industry in Romania is the huge petroleum equipment manufacturing industry that has been developed to complement the oil industry. In Lisica, Romania’s steel base, there is a vast oil-drilling facility from drilling to refining. In Bucharest and Stalin City and other places also have such factories, but most importantly in the oil city - Pristina. Where “51” oil equipment manufacturing plant, is the country’s largest,
