According to Xinhua News Agency, London, December 13, researchers from the UK such as Bristol University recently reported on the Web site of Nature that some ancient pottery discovered in Poland today has been analyzed. The pottery has many small holes, similar in structure to the filters used to make cheese today. Analysis of the remaining fat samples also confirmed that they were indeed used to treat milk. Researchers Melanie Salker said the ages of these potteries, dating back more than 7,000 years ago, make them the earliest known evidence of human-made cheese. Evidence of human consumption of milk dates back more than 8,000 years, but only evidence of cheese production three or four thousand years ago was found. This discovery greatly reduces the interval from milk to cheese.
