Sontag is dead. Her death represented the end of the tradition of American intellectuals in the 1960s. Sontag was born in 1933. My father was a businessman who ran the fur industry in China and died in China when she was 5 years old. Mother married NathanSontag seven years later. She was young and early as early as 1948, only 15 years old when he entered the University of California, Berkeley to study, then transferred to the University of Chicago, graduating in 1951, at the age of 18 years. At sophomore year, Sontag, 17, married Philip Rieff, a 28-year-old social lecturer, and moved to Boston.
