In April and May 2003, one of the biggest things that affected Chinese society was the prevention and treatment of “SARS.” In early May, nearly 100 people were infected daily in the country and 340 people died in June. During this period, Beijing and various provinces and major cities all listed “prevention and treatment of SARS” as their top priority. Not only has the “May Day” holiday been canceled, but the major conferences were originally scheduled to be postponed. Moreover, the curricula and the production of enterprises in many schools have been adjusted in response to the SARS needs. There are news programs on television
