In generally accepted procedures, patients with type I tuberculosis (PTB) should be given an intensive phase of their regimen for one month if sputum smear positive at the end of the second month of treatment. In the nineties, we conducted extensive discussions on the pros and cons of the program 2-6, but failed to reach a final consensus. This is why R Urbanczik and Frantz Lamothe organized the symposium.
