中国京剧院最早前身是1942年建立的延安平剧院,进城后經过中央文化部戏曲改进局京剧院、中国戏曲研究院实验京剧团等阶段,逐漸成长壮大起来。建院以來,它在党和政府的关怀和领导下,有了明确的方針任务和优越的工作条件,并且不断地补充新的艺术力量,成为新型的国家戏曲剧院。中国京剧院的主要任务,是遵照“百花齐放,推陈出新”的方針,继承和发揚京剧艺术的优良传統,大力整理传統剧目,并积极創作新剧目和进行舞台艺术的改革实驗,經常演出丰富多采的优秀剧目,深入地为工农兵服务,为社会主义建設服务。十年來,京剧院坚决执行了党的方針,在各方面都有着一定的成績。
