Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of low energy laser on various types of burning mouth syndrome (BMS). Methods Ninety patients with various types of BMS admitted to Department of Stomatology and Ophthalmology, Stomatological Hospital of China Medical University from September 2015 to May 2016 were randomly divided into three groups (30 in each group). On the basis of conventional drug treatment, low-energy laser treatment was used, once a day for 20 days (group A); low-energy laser treatment for one day for 10 times (group B); soothing light Irradiation treatment, irradiation once a day, continuous irradiation 20 d (C group). The improvement of pain in the three groups before and after treatment and at follow-up [Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score] and the effect of different treatment periods were compared. Results After treatment, the VAS scores of patients in group A and group B tended to decline. The difference was statistically significant compared with group C (P <0.05). At the end of treatment, the patients with type 2 BMS had a lower tendency than those with group 1 and 3 , The difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). At 1-month follow-up, there was no significant difference in VAS score and efficacy between the three groups and BMS subtypes at the end of treatment (P> 0.05). Conclusion Low-energy laser treatment of BMS is effective, and the treatment of type 2 BMS is superior to other types of treatment; within a certain time range, irradiation dose parameters unchanged, the number of irradiation was different, the difference was not statistically significant.
