In Harvard's Management Practice, Innovation Master Scott D. Anthony asks: Is there any way to predict when a hot new idea can easily be captured by others and when the business may become Fragile? He found that creating innovators and businesses that grow with simple, convenient, customer-centric, and low-cost returns can sometimes lead the way by opening up new paths and leaving the companies that are trying to compete far behind behind. But beware, sometimes companies that appear to follow subversive strategies will find themselves beaten by larger competitors who can use the power of their own brands and marketing to defeat innovators.
