随着网络应用的飞速发展,许多信息资源每天都要接受大量用户的访问,传统的文件服务器已无法适应逐渐提高的访问频率和访问速度,从而出现了把资源存储及文件共享服务这一功能从文件服务器上分离出来的NAS(Network Attached Storage,网络连接存储)。由于采用了独立硬件系统和针对存储与文件共享进行了高度优化的软件系统,所以比起传统的文件服务器,除了响应速度和数据带宽有很大的优势之外,NAS在系统本身的稳定性、可管理性以及冗余能力方面,都会有相当的提高。最重要的是,NAS产品可以把系统管理员从繁杂的管理工作中解放出来。由于NAS系统提供的服务是基于网络文件系统共享的,和本地文件系统无关,可以轻而易举的满足跨平台的需求,所以越来越多的用户从传统的文件服务器转向NAS系统。涉足这个领域的厂商也就越来越多。
