近几年来,棉花枯、黄萎病在新疆棉区危害面积逐年扩大,若不采取有效措施加以防止,它将成为兵团发展高产优质棉的一大障碍。抗病育种是解决棉花枯、黄萎病的根本途径。西北农业大学农学系与植保系协作完的棉花枯萎抗性定向培育法,能不经杂交,将原感病、丰产、优质的品种在3~5年内定向培育为高抗、丰产、优质新品种,他们采用此方法迄今尚未遇到任何失败例证。这种方法的研完成功,为棉花抗病育种提供了一条新的途径,打破了过去育种工作中那种依靠自然变异,或依靠性状重组“机率”的盲目性和局限性。这对我们搞育种工作的同志来说,无疑是一个很大的启示和提供了一种实用方法。农五师已开始应用,希望植棉垦区的科研单位也进行试验,尽快选育出高抗、丰产、优质的棉花品种,为把兵团植棉水平提到一个新高度而努力!
