党的基本路线,即“一个中心,两个基本点”,是建国四十多年来正反两方面经验的总结,是付出沉重代价换来的,是建设有中国特色社会主义的总纲领、总路线。在当今世界风云变幻、纷繁复杂的形势下,坚持党的基本路线,我们就能立于不败之地。从这个意义上讲,宣传好党的基本路线是各级党报的根本任务,是衡量一张党报办得好与不好的最为重要的标准。但是,明确这一任务是一码事,很好地完成这一任务又是一码事。这是因为,多年以来新华日报“稳重有余,活泼不足”的弊病,直接影响了党的基本路线的宣传。实践告诉我们,只有把报纸办得“既坚持大方向,又新鲜活泼”,才能开创党的基本路线的宣传的新局面。新局面如何开创?我们感到引进竞争机制,开展新闻竞赛,不失为“打破”与“开创”的动力之一。

Practice tells us that only by running the newspaper “both in the general direction and in a fresh and lively one” can we create a new situation in propagandizing the party’s basic line. How to Create a New Situation? We feel that introducing a competitive mechanism to carry out news competitions is one of the motivations for “breaking” and “pioneering.”
