Objective To investigate the development of head circumference in children with autism. Methods The subjects were 156 autistic children (autism group) diagnosed with autism in Shengjing Hospital affiliated to China Medical University from September 2009 to June 2011, of which 74 were ≤3 years and 82 were> 3 years old. At the same time, 141 healthy children were selected as normal control group, of which 58 were ≤3 years and 83 were> 3 years old. Two groups were measured head circumference and compared between groups. Results The average head circumference and the proportion of large head in autism group ≤3 years old were higher than those in normal control group. There was significant difference between the two groups (P <0.05). Autism group> 3-year-old children with head circumference and head of the average proportion of healthy children are similar, the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant (P> 0.05). The average head circumference of the two groups had no significant difference (P> 0.05) after excluding the big head children. Conclusion Autism children with large head circumference at the early postnatal period, and often accompanied by bulk, head circumference anomalies are also one of the important clinical features in children. To understand the development of autism head circumference can provide a reference for the pathogenesis of autism.
