According to the FY1986 budget, the research on lasers costs 40% more than the 1985 budget ($ 1.2 billion in 1985 and $ 1.7 billion in 1986). Table 1 shows the total analysis, including the special budget for large laser programs such as laser weapons and estimates of the research budgets for the lasers in other programs. The prominent problem of 85 years is the obvious change of plan. The government plan calls for a 44% increase in the cost of lasers, with a total increase of $ 514 million. However, the budget for the Star Alliance (SDI) program has been steadily increasing but laser-related costs have risen from $ 503 million in 1985 to $ 1,169 million in fiscal 1986. This increased by 666 million or 133%.
