澳大利亚是世界上前寒武系主要分布区之一,是27个太古宙陆核中的一个。1972年编制出版的澳大利亚和新几内亚地质图(1:500万),将澳大利亚前寒武系分为:西澳造山省西澳地台盖层北澳造山省北澳地台盖层中澳造山省中澳地台盖层晚前寒武纪造山带(域)等构造区Rutland(1973b)认为可按三个 Chelogenic 划分三个特征省(图Ⅵ—1):(1)太古宙皮尔巴拉—伊尔岗省,相当于西澳造山省。
Australia is one of the main Precambrian distribution areas in the world and one of 27 Archean continental nuclei. The geological map of Australia and New Guinea (1: 5 million), prepared and published in 1972, divides the Precambrian of Australia into: the Western Australian Orogenic Platform of the Western Australian orogenic province. The tectonic zone of the Precambrian orogen (ie, the Late Cretaceous orogenic belt) in the provinces of China, Australia and Rutland (1973b) suggests that three Chelogenic provinces (Figure VI-1) can be divided into three (1) Archean Pilbara - Ilgan Province, equivalent to the Western Australian orogenic province.
