19世纪美国著名小说家赫尔曼·麦尔维尔写了一部发人深省的生态题材小说——《白鲸》。《白鲸》作为一部生态预言小说,其中蕴含着恒久的艺术价值。这部小说讲述的是乘坐“裴廓德号”捕鲸船的船长亚哈带领着他的船员与白鲸莫比迪克之间展开的一场生死较量,从而引起了社会上由船长亚哈为代表的人类与白鲸莫比迪克为代表的自然之间的关系进行了深刻讨论。本文先通过小说《白鲸》分析生态批评理论,研究人与自然对立与和谐的关系,并且分析这种关系的思想起源,以此唤醒人们保护和尊重自然的生态意识。
