Teaching geography knowledge, cultivating geographical basic skills and ideological education are the three basic functions of geography teaching. To improve the quality of geography teaching in middle schools, we must not simply focus on good cultural classes. We must also strengthen ideological and political education in teaching. Only in this way can we truly improve the teaching level. The national scholastic geography syllabus for full-time schools (protocol draft) stipulates the purpose of geography teaching; ”makes students master the basic knowledge of geography in China, the world’s continents, oceans, and major countries; and enables them to master the basics of using maps.
