1. Introduction There are some notable and available non-metallic minerals and inorganic wastes in Hokkaido. Namely kaolin, barite, zeolite, talc, asbestos, bentonite, peridotite, limestone, pozzolana, rice husk ash and the like. However, as a deposit, most of these minerals are small-scale, low-grade and have many problems for economic development and utilization. This is the general situation of non-metallic mineral resources in Japan.
