美国科普作家继阿西莫夫(Asimov)之后,马丁·盖德纳(Martin Gardner)也逐渐为中国读者所熟悉了。阿西莫夫受过正规的科学教育,他的一些著作(他的著作已超过二百本)如《从元素到基本粒子》、《生命的起源》、《数的趣谈》等均已翻译成多种文字出版,销路很广。盖德纳的著作还没有介绍到中国来,中国读者知道他主要是通过《科学美国人》这本杂志。1979年初我国开始翻译出版这本科学月刊的中文版,定名为《科学》,这样,这本杂志同时以英、法、德、意、西、日、中等七种文字出版,发行量已突破百万大关。《科学美国人》设有“数学游戏”
