Neonatal rats grew slowly after being subcutaneously injected with low dose of monosodium glutamate (MSG). To 100 days of age, weight, length lag in the control group 2S, reached the diagnostic criteria for dwarf. The corresponding reduction of internal organs, but the brain weight and intelligence and the control group no significant difference. Similar to the clinical manifestations of human pituitary gnomes. Morphological observation showed that the nucleus of the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus narrowed, nerve cells shrank and degenerated, and the number decreased. Pituitary weight loss, anterior pituitary growth hormone cells decreased. Image analysis showed that the volume and area of these cells were significantly reduced, but the immunohistochemical staining showed that there was still the ability to synthesize growth hormone. It was proved that low dose MSG caused the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus injury, the production of growth hormone releasing factor (GRF) Reduced release, decreased blood levels of growth hormone, in line with the current clinical etiology of some pituitary dwarf, the model can be used as a further study of human pituitary dwarf animal model.
